Blackhawk Area Council is proud to host a 2011 Central Region Powder Horn training course.
Dates
The course spanned two weekends,
April 8-10 and May 13-15, 2009.
Powder Horn is an exciting training opportunity designed as an action-packed, hands-on outdoor course to expose adult leaders to the resources necessary to operate a successful unit level high adventure program and support the Venturing Ranger program.

Powder Horn adventures vary from course to course. Your course will include many of the following: Backpacking, Land Navigation, Cave Exploring, Leave No Trace, Communication, Life Saving, Conservation Project Development, Wilderness Survival, Cooking, Watercraft, COPE, Overnight, SCUBA, Physical Fitness, Ecology, Plants & Wildlife, Emergency Preparedness, Cycling/Mountain Biking, Equestrian, Shooting Sports, Expedition Planning, Outdoor Living History, First Aid, Mountaineering, Fishing, Winter Sports, Hunting, and Working with Teens.
No one will be required to participate in any activity they feel uncomfortable with, but we will highly encourage you to participate in every activity offered.
Participant Qualification Requirements:
- Be a registered adult member of the Boy Scouts of America.
- Have completed Adult Venturing Leader Basic Training (for Venturing adults) or Scoutmaster Fundamentals (for Boy Scout adults) prior to attending Powder Horn course or This is Scouting plus position specific training for your position.
- Be able to meet physical requirements of BSA Annual Health and Medical Record (parts A, B, and C) in a backcountry environment.
- Must have your Council Scout Executive’s approval.

Location: Camp Lowden, Oregon, IL
Date: April 8 – 10 and May 13 – 15, 2011 (total of 6 days)

Participant Fee: $250.00 includes all meals, training materials,
lodging and
program supplies.
Course Size: Maximum of 48 participants (A standby list will be created,
if needed. If this is the case, those participants that have
paid the entire course fee will be registered prior to those
who have made a partial payment.)

- Full payment of $250.00 OR
- A $50.00 non-refundable deposit. A second payment of $100.00 is due by January 15, 2011 and a final payment of $100.00 is due February 28, 2011.
We expect this course to fill up fast. Once 48 participants have signed up all others will be placed on a waiting list.
It is important to note that this is a hands-on, intense, early-morning to late-night schedule. Many of the activities will be held outdoors even if the temperature is very cool. All six days are required to receive your Powder Horn recognition.
