Blackhawk Area Council is proud to host a 2009 Central Region Powder Horn training course.

April 17-19 and May 1-3, 2009.
Powder Horn is an exciting training opportunity designed as an action packed, hands on outdoor course to expose Venturers and other Scouters to the resources necessary to operate a successful unit level high adventure program and support the Venturing Ranger Program.
This course is based on the Ranger requirements giving participants an exposure to some outdoor / high adventure activities. All Ranger core requirements will be covered plus a majority of the electives.
Topics covered; First Aid, Communications, Cooking, Emergency Preparedness, Land Navigation, Leave No Trace, Wilderness Survival, Conservation, Backpacking, Cycling, Ecology, Hunting and Fishing, Lifesaver, Mountaineering, Orienteering, Outdoor Living History, Physical Fitness, Plants and Wildlife, Project COPE, Scuba, Shooting Sports, Watercraft. (No one has to physically do any activity they feel uncomfortable with.)
Course Requirements:
- Must be a registered adult member of the Boy Scouts of America over age 21.
- Must have completed Venturing Leader Basic Training or Venturing Leader Specific Course and for Boy Scout Leaders Scoutmastership Fundamentals or Scoutmaster Specific Course and Outdoor Skills Course. Prior to attending Powder Horn course.
- Must be able to meet physical requirement of BSA Class III physical in a backcountry environment.
- Receive a recommendation from your Council Executive or designee.

A space can be reserved by completing a Blackhawk Area Council Powder Horn Application and returning it to:
The Blackhawk Area Service Center Powder Horn Course.
Include a $50.00 non-refundable deposit. Payment in full is always accepted however the fee balance can be divided into two payments. $100.00 on January 15, 2009 and $90.00 on Feb 28, 2009. Make all Checks payable to Blackhawk Area Council BSA.
We expect this course to fill up fast and once 48 participants have signed up all others will be placed on a waiting list.
It is important to note that this is a hands on, intense, early morning to late night schedule. A number of the activities will be held in the backcountry. Participants will need to have a current Class 3 physical completed before participating in the course.
